Paul Davies' hand-painted cabinet

Paul Davies

Materials:
Tester pots
Sponge
Paint brushes

Description of your project:

'I inherited this beautiful corner cabinet from a dear friend who sadly passed away. She was a huge animal lover, and I wanted to do something in keeping with the love we shared for animals, as well as keeping the overall antique look of the original piece. Therefore, painting a flamingo on the lower cupboard seemed so fitting to give this piece the edginess I know she would have loved.'

How you made your project:

'I mixed up some colour swatches, and chose an animal so gracious in appearance. It seemed perfect! I freehand drew the outline straight onto the door, and set about painting it with standard wall paint. Overall I'm over the moon with it, it's a great talking piece in my home, and always brings a smile when I look at it.'

Where you got your inspiration from:

'My friend and I both shared a huge love for animals, something she spoke so fondly of, and I wanted to dedicate this piece of furniture to her honour, I usually tend to paint using watercolours straight to canvas, but I had a drawer full of tester pots that I had bought in the sale some time before.'

Overall cost:

'The overall cost was absolutely nothing! But is worth millions in fond memories.'
