How to keep kids’ rooms organised

Posted 26th Feb 2015

Kids’ rooms can be a nightmare to keep tidy. Without the right type of storage, books, toys and clothes will inevitably be strewn all over the floor. This makes it an ongoing battle when it’s time for the room to be cleaned, with the kids’ favourite toys going missing because Mum or Dad was a bit too thorough with their tidying. Follow these helpful tips from Room to Grow to help the kids’ rooms stay neat, tidy and organised.

Find the right storage
This is super easy – there are plenty of ways to avoid toys and trinkets cluttering up the space. Toy chests are worth their weight in gold, as are fun storage solutions such as colourful plastic boxes, nets, bags and baskets. These make it simple to stow toys, gadgets and gizmos away. For example, Lego can go in one coloured box, crayons and paper in another, and cuddly toys in a toy chest. Room to Grow offers a great selection of child-friendly storage, perfect for any style of room.

Buy a good desk
This isn’t much of a concern for little children and toddlers, but as kids get older, the way they use their space changes. So, while they may be content doodling sat on the floor at the moment, the time will come when they need something more robust. The trick is to buy a desk that will remain useful no matter how old they are, something that will look as stylish when they are eight as when they are 18. Most desks come with the added bonus of having attached drawers and storage space, ideal for keeping homework and school exercise books safe.

Don’t overfill the room
Your child’s room doesn’t need to be full to the brim with stuff. As they get older, the things they regularly use or play with will change. If your child is not particularly attached to certain toys, think about storing them in the loft to free up some space. The same applies to books and DVDs. Ultimately, it’s important to make sure that space is used in the best way possible. While they may love having the entire Mr Men collection on display for the time being, in some years down the line, that space may need to be used for something different.
