One of the biggest dates in the Hindu, Sikh, and Jain calendar has officially arrived: Diwali – the annual festival of light which celebrates good triumphing over evil and new beginnings.
There are many traditions which happen throughout this annual celebration, but two essential parts are lights and feasts!
During this five-day festival, people are encouraged to light candles and oil lamps, called diyas, on the streets and in their houses to celebrate light conquering darkness.
Then later, friends and families will gather at special Diwali parties and eat a variety of dishes, including party food and sweets!

Divali is a five-day festival from Sunday 27th - Thursday 31st October 2019.
The dates for the festival change each year, dependent on when there is a new moon on the Hindu lunisolar calendar.
Friends and families traditionally throw Diwali parties, which include a feast of special food.
However, as card games are a massive part of the evening's entertainment, it's best to stick to finger food and snacks that are easy to eat.

Tandoori Street Food Sharing Plate
- 1 pack Geeta’s Tandoori Spice Mix
- 150g chicken breasts cut into goujons
- 150g fish (salmon or haddock), cut into goujons
- 100g chopped mushrooms
- Butternut squash and peppers
- 4 tablespoons vegetable oil
- 4 tablespoons natural yogurt
- 1 tablespoon tomato puree
- 1 lemon
- Chopped coriander
- Red onion cut into rings and lemon wedges for garnish
1. Extract juice from half the lemon and cut remaining half into wedges. Stir one pack Geeta’s Tandoori Spice Mix into yogurt with oil, tomato purée and lemon juice
2. Divide the marinade into 3 and coat the chicken, fish and vegetables in individual bowls. Marinade for 2 hours or overnight.
3. Skewer the chopped vegetables and place on a baking tray and cover with excess marinade. Put the chicken and fish goujons on a baking tray and cover with excess marinade.
4. Oven cook, grill or barbecue for 15-20 minutes turning occasionally. Garnish with chopped coriander, red onion rings and lemon wedges.
5. Serve with naan bread and Geeta’s Premium Mango, Lime and Chilli and Mango & Chilli Chutneys.
