Last Friday, 30th August, was the busiest day for house moves in the UK* with around 6,500 completions set to take place, and new research reveals that for a quarter of movers (25%**), not having anything to sit down on is one of the biggest frustrations of the experience.
So, to help busy new homeowners relax come moving day, leading van rental provider Avis UK has created an innovative solution that provides a practical packing space, combined with somewhere to sit down on until the sofa has been delivered. The answer is a new packing box that transforms into emergency furniture in a few easy steps, thanks to its special design.
With typical cardboard boxes unable to withstand being sat on, the Avis packing box is constructed from high density corrugated cardboard and incorporates a series of additional panels to its layout, providing outstanding strength. Once emptied, the extra panels fold into place to reinforce the main structure and the packing box quickly transforms into a handy seat capable of taking the weight of a full-grown adult***.
When asking Brits what they consider as their moving essentials, three quarters (75%) of tea-loving Brits agreed that the humble kettle is THE most essential item for moving day. To take the pressure off even further, Avis UK has included extra panels and folds in the box design to create special compartments, so essentials are easily at hand during the unloading. The remaining compartments can be used for other must haves identified, including tea/coffee & sugar (70%) and cups & glasses (69%).
Louisa Bell, General Manager UK at Avis Budget Group said: “Even with extra helping hands and rigorous planning, moving home still remains one of life’s most challenging events. Identifying key frustrations on moving day and creating a simple but clever solution is another example of how we like to take an innovative approach to our overall customer experience. The new Avis packing box provides easy access for the must have essentials and then the perfect resting place for homeowners to sit down on and enjoy a cup of tea at the end of what’s expected to be a very busy day for moving”
The new boxes will be available, free of charge, to anyone renting a van from 2nd September as part of a trial scheme at selected Avis stores throughout the UK, whilst stocks last. Stores taking part in the trial include London (Wembley), Edinburgh, Reading, Manchester, Leeds, Maidstone and Portsmouth.
While the new packing box provides a handy seat and ensures essentials are at the ready, the research also reveals that it takes the average new home owner more than a month and a half to fully unpack their boxed belongings, while 7% never manage to do so at all.
Avis vans are available to hire at 63 locations across the UK with a choice of small, medium, large and six-seater vehicles. For business needs, rental vans can provide real flexibility for long or short-term projects. To find your nearest store and book your Avis van direct, visit www.avis.co.uk
