The 30 mod cons that make our lives easier

Posted 25th March

Looking around your home, which modern appliance do you think has made your life the easiest?

A study has looked into it and found washing machines and microwaves are considered two of our most valued modern conveniences.

The research saw 2,000 adults polled, and they identified the items that we believe have improved our day-to-day lives the most.

Picks included electric toothbrushes, tablets and electric kettles, while having access to YouTube tutorials also featured, along with slow cookers and online shopping.

The study, which was commissioned by Heathrow Express, found mod cons save us an average of 51 minutes a day, working out at 13 days a year in total.

While we've seen great steps forward made in recent time, 86 per cent think tech is going to further improve in our lifetimes and contribute to making our lives even simpler.

It was also found that a third 'wouldn't be able to cope' if they no longer had access to technology like dishwashers, tablets and contactless payments.

Yet while we think this, we're not willing to pay over the odds - three quarters consider items like smartphones and smart fridges to be overpriced.

Also, six in 10 had fond memories of the pre-internet age, a time when 'life was simpler'.
