8 things we learnt from last night's Great British Sewing Bee episode…

Hungry bums, 'conceptual' patterns and leopard print jumpsuits… here's everything you need to know about last night's episode of The Great British Sewing Bee

Series five of The Great British Sewing Bee has officially landed and we are loving it.

If you're already a fan of Mercedes (let's face it, who isn't?) or you want in on Sheila's group chat with Rihanna, one thing is for sure: last night's episode was everything we wanted from our favourite crafting competiton.

In case you missed out, here's what we learnt from last night's opening episode…

1. Mercedes met her husband while they were both working in the bomb disposal unit of the army

I think it's safe to say, no one saw that career change coming!

2. You cannot pass off upside-down fabric as 'a design choice'

Sorry Tom, I don't think you fooled them on that one…

3. Sheila *may* have a WhatsApp group with Rihanna

She does love a denim jumpsuit, after all…

4. Mercedes loves a mic drop moment

First episode, first mic drop… we like Mercedes' style!

5. If, like Mercedes, your pattern doesn’t quite go to plan, just call it ‘conceptual’

We've had a few 'conceptual' makes in the past!

6. Patrick has a suprisingly specialised knowledge of planes

What Patrick doesn't know about engineering, isn't worth knowing!

7. Esme really appreciates a well-structured bow

When it comes to bows, it's go big or bow home!

8. Juliet loves a good pair of dressmaking shears as much as we do

We want to see her collection SO bad!
