Would you go without sleep for a tidy home?

Have you ever skipped sleep, just so you can tidy up?

A study of 3,122 customers, conducted by cleaning brand Dr. Beckmann, has revealed an astounding one in four Brits have admitted they will forgo three hours of sleep each week, just so they can conduct household chores.

However, it's not just the actual act of cleaning and tidying that is leaving us sleep deprived. In fact, it was revealed that a quarter of Brits are waking up worried about to the state of their home.

One in 10 said it was this that will have the biggest impact on the quality of their sleep, while the same amount said job worries were the primary factor behind their tossing and turning at night.

Doing the laundry proved to be the most popular activity for night-time cleaners, while one in 10 said they would regularly carry out vacuuming.

The tidiness of the bedroom also played a large part in the quality of our sleep, with 30 per cent admitting they felt it was the room that was the most important to keep clean and tidy to ensure a decent night's forty winks.

In comparison, the state of the bathroom was less likely to prevent people from slumbering, with only one in 20 saying they struggle to sleep if their shower, toilet or sink is looking worse for wear.

Dr. Beckmann spokesperson, Susan Fermor, said: "Our research has shown that the more you care about keeping your home clean and tidy, the less you sleep."

"Not only are domestic gods and goddesses forgoing sleep to complete household chores, but they are far more likely to wake up in the middle of the night worrying about the state of their home."

"We fully expected job and money worries to be the main reason people lie awake at night, so we were really surprised to see the extent to which having an unclean or untidy home can keep people from getting a decent night’s sleep."
