We're all about saving time at Your Home, but even we had to do a double-take when we found 4% of Brits had cooked salmon in the dishwasher…
This was uncovered as it was revealed Brits are looking to cut the time they spend on basic household tasks and are instead turning towards trendy 'life hacks' to get the job done.
It was subsequently found that up to two thirds of Brits are using their household appliances for other tasks, which include cooking salmon in the dishwasher and using hair straighteners to iron clothes.
The survey, conducted by www.hillarys.co.uk, wanted to find out what Brits are doing around the home to make their life easier. To do this, they quizzed 2,317 Brits on the double use of household appliances, with respondents being asked "Do you use certain household appliances for more than just their everyday use?" - to this, two thirds (68%) said yes.
When they were asked why, the top response was 'to cut down on time' (78%).
The respondents were then asked about the home appliances they used for the jobs around the home, with the top hacks revealed to be:
1 Drying clothes with hairdryer - 56%
2 Putting clothes in the freezer to remove chewing gum and other stains - 27%
3 Using hair straighteners to iron clothes - 10%
4 Boiling vegetables and eggs in a coffee maker - 8%
5 Cooking salmon in the dishwasher - 4%
Interestingly, when it came to revealing how they came across the hacks, 59% said they came across them on social media, while 31% said they had heard about them from a relative or friend.
Tara Hall, spokesperson for www.hillarys.co.uk, said: "The results of this survey are really interesting; people are trying out different ways to do things to see if it is quicker and easier and, although they sound strange, some really do work. Others are certainly a bit more trial and error".
