We chat to leading YouTuber Huw Richards, the man who has been proclaimed the future of gardening and the 'next Alan Titchmarsh'.
Having partnered with Dobbies Garden Centre, Huw is hoping to encourage the next generation to find their inner gardener and get growing.
With National Allotment Week (13-19 August) upon us, we find out Huw’s prediction for the next big gardening trend, his inspiration to get started and his top tip for gardening newcomers...
1. What is your favourite thing to grow?
I will be very boring and admit that tomatoes are easily my favourite thing to grow. I must warn you if you decide to grow your own tomatoes, after you have tasted a homegrown tomato straight from the plant and still warm from the sun, any other tomato elsewhere will be a disappointment.
2. What is your favourite ingredient to cook with from the garden?
Garlic has to be at the top of the list! As an ingredient, it alone can make a bland dish taste delicious!
3. What inspired you to start gardening and sharing this on YouTube?
A friend of mine began creating gaming videos when I was 12 years old and this inspired me to begin creating videos about gardening. It very quickly consumed my life but it is so incredible to know that I am helping people around the world to grow their own food.
4. What do you predict will be a big gardening trend for 2019?
Predictions are always tough, but I feel there is going to be a stronger swing from people to grow plants which they can also eat, especially in a small space.
5. What is your top tip for people who are looking to get into gardening but may be a little unsure?
To stop pondering and start doing. There is only so much you can learn from books and videos, the best way to learn is to get stuck in and give it a go yourself and be prepared for failures. Begin small, and as you build confidence you can expand your growing area.
