As we head into the final few months of 2017 it’s time to take a look at the trends that have taken the flooring world by storm. With an array of styles, ranging from stripped back floorboards to classic parquet patterns, 2017 has definitely been a host of variety. Lets take a look at our top 3 trends from the last 12 months:
With the worry of global warming forever looming over our heads, people are doing more and more to live the most eco-friendly life that they can. There are a number of materials that are now seen as sustainable, all of which can be used for flooring. One of the most popular at the moment is Bamboo flooring, a material that often confuses people. Yes, we mean bamboo as in what the pandas eat, but don't worry we’re not hacking into their food supplies! There are a number of reasons as to why Bamboo is so environmentally friendly, unlike wood flooring which is made from logged trees, bamboo is actually a type of grass! Yes, we can now make flooring from grass - welcome to the future kids! The great thing about bamboo is that it only takes up to five years to reach full maturity, whereas trees can take anything between 20-30 years. It is also a regenerating product, this means that there’s no need to replant bamboo, it will just grow again by itself! As well as bamboo flooring there has also been an increase in the usage of reclaimed solid wood floors, it seems that people are loving to revive these unwanted planks. Not only is reclaimed wood great for the environment, preventing unnecessary waste, it's also great for your home as you can finish it in anyway you like! In our opinion, there’s going to be plenty more people heading in the eco-friendly direction so keep an eye out for this trend heading in to 2018.
It seems that 2017 has been the ultimate revival year! Over the last 18 months we have seen a real resurgence in this classic floor, once only seen in schools and church halls. There has been a huge demand for patterned floors and as a result of this we have seen Parquet spring back to life. Not only does the stunning, geometric patterns of parquet flooring add a classic touch to your home, it also allows some variety too - with different types of patterns available. Not only is parquet stylish and pretty easy on the eye, it’s also incredibly resistant and durable, this means that once it as been installed in your home it should last for years to come. With so many people being taken in by the Parquet effect we estimate that this trend is going to be sticking around for the foreseeable.
2017 has seen a rise of summer shades in the flooring world, think the blonde boards of Scandinavian decor. Lighter floors can have many different effects on a room, one of the most appealing being that they can make a space seem bigger than it actually is. With lighter decor being the in thing right now, pale floorboards make a perfect accompaniment and are great if you want to give that crisp, clean finish. Whilst darker wood floors may seem like the more traditional option it can be somewhat dated, depending on the decor. Lighter floors make for a more modern decor, as well as being able to mask dirt and dust better than dark wood flooring.
Of course these are just a small selection of what 2017 has offered us, if you have any other favourite trends that you think deserve to be on the list then why not get in touch! We can’t wait to see what 2018 is going to bring in the interior world, we have our predictions but welcome new ones - let us know what you think!
