Illuminate bath time with these DIY votives

You will need
sea shells, from a selection at Dorset Gifts
PVA glue
paint brush
glitter sand, £3.49 per pack of 12 colours, Baker Ross
plate
hob
water
Pyrex bowl
saucepan
Yaley premium wax pellets, £8, Hobbycraft
Yaley wick clips, £1.80 per pack of 12, Hobbycraft
Yaley wick, £2 per 6ft pack, Hobbycraft

Directions

1 Turn your sea shells upside down. Using a paint brush, apply a thin layer of PVA glue to the rim of each one. Pour some glitter sand into a shallow bowl or plate, and dip the shells into it, to edge them in glitter. Let dry, then repeat once more to thicken the sand.

Step 1

2 Set a saucepan onto the hob and add around 3cm of water. Heat to a boil and place a Pyrex bowl on top. Put a few handfuls of wax pellets into the bowl and leave to melt. Meanwhile, place the wick clips onto 10cm lengths of wick and pinch to secure.

Step 2

3 Secure each wick clip to the bottom of one of the sea shells using a dab of wax. Transfer the melted wax into a jug and carefully pour it into each shell, being careful not to overflow. Leave to set thoroughly.

Step 3

Top tip
Keep the wicks upright by tying them around a pencil and laying it across the top of the shell until the wax has set.
