Rainbow Chalk’s Shabby Chic chalk-based garden paint is ideal for updating exterior furniture. This matt finish paint comes in a range of beautiful colours, and the water-based, low-odour formulation has a water-repellent finish, that also contains additives to help prevent the growth of moulds and algae, so it’s ideal for outdoor use. The paint can be used directly onto bare or previously painted wood, brick, stone, plaster or any suitably primed rigid surface such as metal or plastic. There is no priming or sanding necessary on most surfaces, making it a hassle-free project that can easily be done in a weekend.

How to…

Make sure surfaces are smooth, dry and free from contaminants before you begin. For best results, ensure that the surface is clean and free from wax or oil. If wax has been used previously, clean the surface thoroughly with white spirit. We recommend that bare wood is sanded before painting. Stir the Shabby Chic chalk-based garden paint thoroughly prior to use. The product can then be applied by brush or roller. If applying by brush, apply evenly following the grain of the wood. If rolling, use a short nap mohair roller. Allow to dry thoroughly, then lightly abrade with moistened sand paper or a stainless steel scouring pad – again with the grain of the wood. Apply a second coat if necessary, after two hours.

Decking can start to look a little worse for wear after a few years of use, but help is at hand with Rainbow Chalk’s range of Shabby Chic decking paint.

If your decking is in need of a makeover, Rainbow Chalk’s Shabby Chic decking paint is a water-based coating which is specifically suited to provide weathering protection against rotting mould caused by damp environments and also UV sun rays.
